A Simple Question

Life comes at us from out of the darkness.
And at times we can struggle to find the courage to face it.

But what I've recently discovered is that:

“Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow.”

~ Mary Anne Radmacher

So if life comes racing at you tomorrow,

What Will You Do?

Earth shattering silence

There were no words to be said,
none could be found within my vast vocabulary.
none that quite seemed to fit.
And words have always held an immense power
as if all the questions in the world were no match for their dizzying intellect.
All questions but apparently one.
Words have always been able to point north,
to give direction,
purpose.
But now I am lost
where no utterance can find me.
somewhere beyond the wide circumference they encompass
just beyond their reach.

No words could be said

And the Earth shattering silence transcended all possibility of understanding.

Because, nothing could be said.

the Vast Sea, the Infinite Ocean

A seagull cries a warning
The tempest only moments from the bay
Yet the sky shows no sign of struggle
The blue gives nothing away
But the birds race to find refuge
From the random tyrant called the sea.

The waves grow,
The waters rise,
The tide consumes
The barren shore
Creating an infinite ocean
A sea vaster than imagination.
We have fled to join the fowls
Trenching to evade the tumult
Scouring for a shelter from the storm
But we are unable to climb the cliffs
And the path is secluded from sight

So we must construct a stronghold
And withstand the tsunami
Until eventually the weather withers away
And the heavens clear.

A seagull wails a victory call
As the sun is once more shining in the sky
And hope is once more found
In the gull’s final cry

The River

The river floes forever onward
Regardless of the rocks and stones
                                                                                                      Found in its path
                                                                                                  Forever flowing
                                                                                                Ebbing on
                                                                Streaming through icy waters
                                                                         Foraging forward
In spite of the many obstacles.
                                        Unaware of trials
                                            Unaware of fear
Knowing each bend before it comes
Knowing each bump along the way
                                                        And the river keeps flowing
                                                            As many try to cross
                                                                    They sweat,
Their efforts becoming s part of the river
Unifying.
                                                                          Forever flowing
                                                                               But the bridges they build
                                                                                   To reach the other side
            Crumble
And
            Fall.
                                                The ruins remaining.
And the river runs over it
Remembering the stones that once stood
                                                                    Fondling each pebble
And then continuing on its journey.
                                                                                     This river is infinite
And eventually all come to swim
                                                               And join the opaque waters
                                                                  And are swept away
                                                                      By the constant current
That outlives eternity.
